Ale and beer.
Question
Cal’s Pints produces ale and beer. Production is limited by the following scarce resources: corn, hops, and
malt. The brewery produces four different types of beer: golden ale, India Pale Ale (IPA), lager, and stout. Recipes for each require different proportions of resources, as shown in the table below:
Corn (lbs.) | Hops (oz.) | Malt (lbs.) | |
Golden ale | 5 | 4 | 30 |
IPA | 6 | 6 | 30 |
Lager | 8 | 5 | 35 |
Stout | 10 | 6 | 40 |
Available | 650 | 430 | 1780 |
The profits for a barrel of each type of beer are as follows: $13/barrel for golden ale, $16/barrel for IPA, $14/barrel for lager, and $18/barrel for stout.
- Formulate and solve a linear programming model for this product mix application in order to answer the following questions: How many barrels of each kind of beer should Cal’s Pints produce in order to maximize profit? What is the total profit that this combination of beers produced will yield.
