answer the quesiton and do the analysis

Semiotic analysis of a family photograph. A few weeks ago, we talked about the tension inherent in photography between the image as the legacy of some kind of objective truth, and as an image that is a subjective creation and experience. Since this class we have also explored the ways in which messages are created for a purpose and even when they appear documentary, they are created from a “point of view”. Please use one of your family photos and describe this tension. How is this image both informative and expressive? What signs and symbols are at work? What are the important signifying elements? How do you know these are the important elements? What is the “truth (objective) function” of this family photo and the affective (emotional) function of this photo? Also, are there places where the expressive and informative elements of the photograph blend? ( analyze connotative meanig and denotative meaning) Please describe this as well. (Include your photo in your analysis)Stuart Hall – Encoding/Decoding. We talked about, Black Lives Matter in class and discussed the reason/meaning behind the movement’s name. What does BLM mean? To whom? Using your lecture notes and doing your own research define what “Black Lives Matter” means, and discuss why Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi created the movement and how this informed the way they encoded their message as “Black Lives Matter”. How was the title decoded? What dominant discourses emerge? What are some of the effects? On who? Support your opinions by including evidence from research you conduct and from the Stuart Hall reading. Use Hall’s four stages to help describe and analyze your answers. In other words, consider in your answer not only the meaning of the movement’s title in relation to different audiences, but also in how it was produced and circulated, decoded, and reproduced. (Fully related this question to ppt and SH reading I attached, there are speak notes below ppt which will help you analyze.)
