BISM 2600Final Project:  RFP Response for a Small to Medium Sized Business Network Design

This Project is worth up to 200 points.  The written RFP Response is 100 points, the PowerPoint slides are worth 50 points and the presentation is worth 50 points.  

For your midterm project, you assumed the role of a small business owner or manager and you wrote a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the network and technology needs of that business.  For the final project, you are to assume the role of a technology solutions company and answer that RFP.

The written portion should describe the business, their business plan, how information systems supports their operations and management, a summary of the problem that was outlined in their RFP, an action plan for how you will solve their problem, a timeline for when this work can be completed, and how much it will cost in terms of labor and material.  This should include a material list and cost estimate for all of the materials in your proposed network.  You can provide your own labor rates, or use the following:

  • Electrician (for pulling cabling), $50/hour
  • PC Technician, $75/hour
  • Network Engineer, $195/hour
  • Project Manager, $250/hour

Your proposal should reflect a reasonable time estimate for each person you might need (you may or may not need all of these, and possibly others as well).

You should include material specifications for each item in the material list in an Appendix. 

You should also include a Microsoft Visio diagram of the network.  Your Visio diagram should include a graphical representation of your network and should include the EUI48 and IP address for each device on the network.

The proposal and network design should incorporate as much of the course content as possible.

Your presentation should be no more than 7 minutes long.  Your slides should be the length needed to support your presentation.
