  1. Use MS Visio to design a Peer to Peer Network Using a crossover cable
  2. Physical Networking:  Connect the two laptops using your crossover cable
    1. Do you have a link light on each laptop?
  3. IP Networking:  Assign IP addresses to each laptop, using the following addressing scheme: 
  • Team 1 – IP Range 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254
    • Team 2 – IP Range 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.254
    • Team 3 – IP Range 192.168.3.1 to 192.168.3.254
    • Team 4 – IP Range 192.168.4.1 to 192.168.4.254
    • Team 5 – IP Range 10.10.5.1 to 10.10.5.254

Reserve the first address for the Gateway.
Use a subnet mask appropriate for your IP range

  • Windows Networking: 
    • Name each laptop according to the sticker on the screen
    • Set each laptop into a workgroup called ‘BISM’
    • Create two admin users on each laptop using the names of the laptop as the username and the password
    • Create an admin user called ‘BISM2600’ with a password of ‘bism2600’
    • Create a shared folder named ‘2Share’+’LaptopName’ at the root of C: on each laptop and create a text document in it that contains the laptop name, the team number and name, and the names of the team members
    • Share these folders between the two laptops given read only permissions
    • Verify that you can open the text documents from the other laptop but not edit them
    • Now change the permissions of each share and verify that you can now create new documents and edit the existing one across the network.
  • Have Instructor verify configuration
