Part A

Think about a popular TV show that you watch that focuses on small-group dynamics. This could be a popular TV drama, focused on the workplace, for example.

Write, individually, a one-page reaction to the small-group dynamics demonstrated in the show. From a communication perspective, what went wrong? How could the members have handled the situation differently? Post your reaction for your team. Review and comment on the reactions of each team member. Identify common observations.

Analyze, as a team, the small-group dynamics demonstrated in the videos by considering the following:

The scope and functions of the small group within the organization, such as idea generation, event planning, process or creation, evaluation, and quality control

The effectiveness of each member’s communication styles. What are the opportunities for improvement?

The type of leadership within the small group, such as fixed, rotational, or ad hoc

How the group leader and members communicate during group meetings

Communication obstacles, such as groupthink tendencies, credibility issues, and insufficient listening

Refer to this week’s readings to inform your analysis.

Part B

Create a group training presentation based on the communication deficiencies displayed in the video. Your training plan may be in the format of your choice.

You may choose a 15- to 20-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with speaker notes, or an equivalent multimedia program or technology application, such as video, audio, or web conferencing software.

Include the following in your group training presentation:

The communication skills the group must implement to become more effective

The roles each member must adopt to become more effective

The leadership skills the manager must demonstrate to become more effective

Appropriate managerial actions to mitigate communication obstacles

Conflict management strategies to encourage positive outcomes

Include a reference slide.

Format your training presentation according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines.

Submit your assignment.

Present your Group Training Presentation.

Section 4: Quality Improvement Strategies

Throughout this course you have been considering the relationship between structure, process, and outcomes as it relates to health care quality. Looking at outcomes, alone, may not tell the “whole story.” For instance, if you are concerned with improving fall rates, evaluating the process—related activities or practices—can help you identify factors that contribute to outcomes and develop strategies for improving them.

For this section of your Course Project, you create a process map to examine a current process related to your quality improvement issue. You will use the results of the process mapping to redesign a process to help minimize or close the performance gap(s). As you proceed, keep in mind the importance of maintaining a patient-centered focus so the patient experience is not negatively affected by any changes in process.

To prepare:

  • Review the instructions provided in the Learning Resources for creating a process map.
  • With your quality improvement issue in mind, as well as the other work you have completed on your Course Project thus far, think about how creating a process map could help you to better understand your quality improvement issue and redesign an associated process.
  • Create a process map using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.
  • Refine the strategies for promoting systems-level change to minimize or close the performance gap(s) that you began to think about in Week 7. As part of this, identify a way to redesign at least one process based on your analysis of the process map that you have created.

To complete:

  • Write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you describe quality improvement strategies that you selected related to your quality improvement issue.
  • Finalize your process map, which will be submitted along with the paper.

In order to make decisions about the value of any research study for practice, it is important to understand the general processes involved in analyzing research data. By now, you have examined enough research studies to be aware that there are some common ways that data are reported and summarized in research studies. For example, the sample is often described by numbers of participants and by certain characteristics of those participants that help us determine how representative the sample is of a population. The information about the sample is commonly reported in tables and graphs, making use of frequency distributions, measures of central tendency, and dispersion. Information about the variables (or concepts) of interest when quantified are also reported in similar manner.Although the actual data analysis takes place after data have been collected, from the initial planning of a research study, the researcher needs to have an awareness of the types of questions that can be answered by particular data analysis techniques.

For this Discussion, review the case study entitled “Social Work Research: Measuring Group Success.” Consider the data analysis described in that case. Recall the information presented in the earlier chapters of your text about formulating research questions to inform a hypotheses or open-ended exploration of an issue.

Post an explanation of the types of descriptive and/or inferential statistics you might use to analyze the data gathered in the case study. Also explain how the statistics you identify can guide you in evaluating the applicability of the study’s findings for your own practice as a social worker. what is Horizontal integration?

I initially posted this on Friday, May 10, 2019. I am not sure why it did not show up in the initial thread.

Horizontal integration is an action where a company acquires another company that is essentially doing the same thing, e.g. when a biscuit company decides to buy another biscuit company. This type of integration is the type that you would see when one company is looking to develop some type of monopolistic advantage by reducing competition and increasing market share in order to develop specific economies of scale.

Vertical integration is when a company that operates within one section of the overall supply chain acquires another company within that same supply chain, e.g. when a biscuit company decides to buy the trucking company that distributes the biscuits to retailers or decides to buy the company that provides the raw ingredients for the biscuits. This type of integration is the type you would see when one company is looking to cut overall costs and potentially even speed up the entire supply chain (or at least tailor the activities of the trucking company or the raw ingredient company to their own specific requirements).

Diversification is one of the strategies pursued by firms wishing to grow in newer markets and by launching newer products. Diversification usually entails the firms entering new markets in the industry in which they are already present by launching newer products. Note the emphasis on new markets and new products as diversification is not only about entering newer markets but also with newer products. For instance, launching detergents and other hygiene based products by firms that already have soaps and other personal care products is one form of diversification wherein the firms launch an entirely new product line aimed at targeting newer market segments. Similarly, innovating and inventing newer products is another way of diversification, which can extend beyond the existing industry in which the firms operate. The best example of this type of diversification is launching mobile payment systems by mobile telephony companies wherein they tap newer market segments with newer product and service lines.
