Term Paper Students are required to complete a term paper that analyzes different aspects of a public or nonprofit organization based on the topics covered in this course. The project is designed to foster students’ critical thinking through in-depth analysis of a specific organization from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The paper should analyze at least three of the following aspects or areas about an organization of your choice: • Internal and External Environments • Organizational Structure and Design • Organizational Communication • Decision Making in Organizations • Organizational Culture • Management & Leadership • Power, Politics & Control in Organization • Organizational Change • Organizational Learning It is up to you to determine which aspects interest you enough to write about and whether you have sufficient knowledge about these aspects or components of the organization so that you can apply them to your organization. The paper should sufficiently present the chosen aspects and how they relate to your organization, and display analysis and evaluation of your organization in terms of those aspects. The paper should be between 14-17 pages (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point, one- inch margins) excluding cover page, table of content, and references. The paper should consist of five sections: • Introduction: this section should briefly introduce the organization of your choice and how you organize the paper (suggested length: 2-3 pages). 4 • Aspect I (substitute the heading with your own chosen area) • Aspect II (substitute the heading with your own chosen area) • Aspect III (substitute the heading with your own chosen area) Sections 2-4 are the main sections of the paper. Ground your analysis in organizational theory from your reading assignments and cite your references. Describe and assess the current conditions of your organization, whether it is effective and responsive, or not (suggested length: 9-10 pages). • Conclusion: this section should offer recommendations you have developed about how the organization can be improved, based on theories we covered in the course and the evaluations you made (suggested length: 3-4 pages). The paper is worth 25% of student’s overall grade. Submission of work prepared by you for another class will not be accepted.
