As we have seen this week when looking at both psychoanalytic and neo-psychoanalytic theory, much of our mental health and success in adulthood is related to the events and relationships of our childhood. Much like Freud, Alfred Adler believed that childhood events are pivotal for the adult. For Adler, his pivotal childhood events were the development of rickets which kept him from walking until the age of four and contracting a near-fatal case of pneumonia at age five. These events served to inculcate a lifelong ambition which centered around his becoming a physician in order to focus on the curing of deadly diseases. 

According to Alfred Adler, all people have moments when they feel inferior. For many, such moments will lead them to strive to compensate for that weakness. When this happens, it leads to what he calls “superiority striving,” in which the person is motivated by his or her feelings of inferiority to overcome and strive for betterment, achievement, and perfection. 

It is important to note that superiority striving is different from simply striving for power. Adler considered this an unhealthy desire because the sole goal is power. The way that someone strives to meet his or her goals from an Adlerian point of view is referred to as a style of life. 

Adler is also known for his study of birth order and its impact on personality.

Research Adler’s theory using your textbook, the Internet, and the Argosy University online library resources. Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Choose a social or political leader (current or past) to examine through an Adlerian framework of superiority striving and style of life.
    • Superiority Striving
      • What might be the motivation behind this leader’s career choice, according to Adler’s theory?
      • What was this person’s perceived inferiority or weakness?
      • How did this person obtain his or her high level of superiority striving? For example, Franklin Roosevelt’s bout with polio may have been responsible for some of his motivation. 
    • Style of Life
      • What was his/her goal and unique style of life that could be used to achieve this goal?
      • What steps did this person take to overcome their perceived inferiority?
      • Did this leader act out of social interest or for personal gain? What was the long-term outcome of his/her striving? 
    • Birth Order
      • How would you apply Adler’s theory of birth order to this personality?

Format your paper so it is double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font, and with normal one-inch margins. Include a title page with a running head, an abstract, and a reference page. Do this for all the papers for this course.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Genealogy Project

Objective: To develop a three-generation genealogy chart for a family.

Part I: Research a family’s health history chart

1. Create a chart that summarizes one family’s health history. You
must include a minimum of three generations on the chart. If you chose
not to use your own family, you are responsible for finding a family to
base the chart upon. Generations two and three should contain
information about siblings, unless there is a situation where there is
an only child.

2. Incorporate all of the following information into the chart, if
available (if not available, state that so that points will not be
removed for not including required elements):

a. Gender

b. Place of birth (City, state, and/or country)

c. Marital status

d. Offspring

e. Occupation

f. Cause of death

g. Chronic illnesses (ex: arthritis, sickle cell anemia, diabetes,
hypertension, cancer, congenital defects heart and lung disease,
developmental delays, physical abnormalities, psychiatric disorders or
anything else that is pertinent.)

Part II: Develop an inheritance chart

1. Based upon the information obtained from the genealogy chart that
you created, develop an inheritance diagram/pedigree chart/genealogy
chart, that highlights inheritance patterns of different chronic
illnesses (ex: ex: arthritis, sickle cell anemia, diabetes,
hypertension, cancer, congenital defects, heart and lung disease,
developmental delays, physical abnormalities, psychiatric disorders or
anything else that is pertinent.) Note: track one chronic illness. You
can find some ideas of how to format a pedigree chart by searching
Google for pedigree charts/pedigree charts/genealogy charts. Some can be
downloaded at no cost. Keep the size to normal paper size and make the
format something that you can submit Power Point chart, or pdf of a
drawing that you do.

2. Develop a legend that references the following items with symbols as listed below. See Page 46 for sample legends to use.

a. Boxes = males, circles = females

b. Shade/color the boxes to indicate a particular trait or chronic illness as listed above.

c. Include each color in the legend to indicate what it represents

d. Relationships:

i. A vertical line connects the spouse or mate of a male or female

ii. A vertical line indicates children

iii. Indicate deceased members of the family

iv. Place a star over the person who is the focus of the chart

3. Include all of the family health information include on the genealogy chart in Part I.

Part III: Summarize and explain your findings

Write at least two paragraphs which summarize and explain what the
genealogy chart revealed about the health and health risks of the person
and their family. Review the colored genealogy chart and observe which
health traits/risks stand out and discuss them in relation to the focus
person. Note: “Summarizing” refers to “covering the main points” of what
you found in your project. “Explaining” refers to “making your findings
understandable and clear”.

Grading Criteria:

This activity represents 10% of your finalgrade.

dominant, autosomal recessive, multifactorial, or general
genetic/familial tendency)
20 Overall project appearance, grammar, formatting, clarity, logical flow of contents, APA style formatting

Also, copy/paste the grading criteria
chart (this chart) onto the last page of your paper, so that it can be
easily accessed while grading your paper online.

Note: This project should be typed. The cover page should be
typed, Part I can be a table that is typed, Part 2 can be typed in Power
Point or neatly drawn by hand and submitted via pdf file and Part 3
should be typed.

Staple pages together to submit. Do this at home, as a stapler
will not be available in the classroom. Do not put paper in a fancy
folder or cover.

  • Reflect on how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these disorders for a patient based on the factor you selected.

    Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” s insufficiency and one for
    venous thrombosis. Consider the epidemiology and clinical presentation
    ofmedia in the Week 2 Learning Resources. Use the examples in the media
    as a guide to construct two mind maps—one for chronic venou both chronic
