Data Deception

Consider the challenges that could arise when you find yourself in a situation in which the information you must communicate is not as positive as your senior management audience is expecting. What if you or someone else might possibly lose your jobs? Would you be tempted to present the data in the most flattering light? Consider the ethical issues involved in communicating information that is deceptive.

As you review your Resources this week, continue your research in the Library, and prepare to write your Discussion posting, contemplate the following. Note: You do not need to directly answer these points in your Discussion post as they serve only to begin your thinking process; however, you must explain your reasoning as you formulate your formal response.

  • Is some data, even if it does not convey the whole picture, better than no data?
  • Have you ever had an occasion when you doubted the information you were presented, because the form it was presented in made you believe it was misleading? If so, what about the form made you feel this way?
  • What lessons can you take from the Resources this week that you can use as a manager? Consider those key lessons and how you can use them in your daily work life.

Now answer the following below:

  • Find an example in which either biased or intentionally deceptive information had major consequences. Briefly analyze your findings and include a reference to your sources.
  • As a manager, how would you handle situations where the data delivers bad news or will have negative consequences? What are the ethical ramifications of such situations?

All work in APA format with proper citing!

Critique review of “Love is Not a Pie” attached

Essay Instructions

A critique is a formal evaluation of a text, and one of the most common forms of critique in literature is the review. In a review, you – as the reviewer – get to evaluate the text. For your first essay, choose one of the short stories I’ve assigned to review. Your 35 page review should include quotations from the text wherein you will cite your sources according to MLA guidelines. Here are some guidelines for writing your review:

Introduce What You Are Evaluating

• Include the title and author.

• Be clear about what you are evaluating

Set up Your Review with a Summary

• Your summary is to be used as a reference point for your discussion.

• Be sure that your summary is balanced with adequate analysis. This is not a book report.

Put the Piece into Context

• What type of work is it?

• When was it written?

Analyze the Text

• Note how the work is structured.

• Look at the individual elements: plot, character, dialogue.

• Determine the purpose of the work.

Include Your Reasoned Opinion: This Is Your Evaluation

• Did the work achieve its purpose?

• What is your response to the selection and why?

• Agree or disagree with the presentation of information (whether or not it achieved its purpose).

• Base your agreement or disagreement on evidence.

End with a Balanced Conclusion

• Recap the pros and cons of the piece.

• Give your overall reaction.
