There are certain aspects of culture that hold or record every individual point of a people. Arts, literary works, and tangible expression offer a visual representation of shared beliefs in a culture, outline and highlight values and standards, and most importantly can tell a lot about the advancement of culture and how they chose to act upon their societal norms. Historical records, first hand accounts, and teachings can paint the intellectual side of a culture and can clarify educational standards and lend a hand to historians. Records are vital in constructing an accurate idea of the past and being able to reach back in time through someone else’s words from hundreds or thousands of years ago is priceless. Despite the priceless value of both of these areas of cultural expression, I believe that visual arts are most important within a culture. Art is a great equalizer and can be accessed by anyone within a culture. Art is a unifying factor and can highlight the unity and beauty of life within a culture and it can be understood by everyone in a culture. Visual arts can also be very representative of the times, which can valuable within a culture as an example. Literary and performing arts can also be a point of elevation in a society and can convey intricate and complex concepts in a casual, beautiful, and easily understandable way. Also, for many cultures that are advanced visual art such as performance, literature, painting, and sculptures can be just as important as law and order within a society and can provide a detailed recounting of life within a culture just as accurate as historical record.
