Drug trafficking and cyberterrorism

Drug trafficking and cyber-terrorism
Drug trafficking is the engagement in the illegal activities that involve the manufacture, distribution, and selling of substances considered to be drugs, and illegal according to the jurisdiction of a particular country. Cyber terrorism is involvement in violence through the use of the internet that can cause physical harm or threat to a victim, for selfish and personal gains. It is considered to be an act of terrorism because of the terror-related activities that are involved. For example the use of viruses and other programmed software that is used to alter or gain information from computers for the planning of terrorist activities. Drug trafficking and cyber terrorism continues to be a significant menace to the US for a long time now. If the correct mitigation procedures are not put in place, the problem is likely to escalate. This will be detrimental to the nation as well as the citizens as it affects some sectors within the country ranging from economic to social.
Both drug trafficking and cyber terrorism will continue to be a problem to the US homeland for the next eight to ten decades. Reports of drug trafficking and cyber terrorism continue to be reported daily. What lacks is the development of more comprehensive and effective policies as well as its implementation. Whenever the existing systems seem not to be working, it will on be wise to seek for its replacement or review to determine where the actual problem is. The current policies are not tight enough to curb the problem and therefore, this only exhibits the unawareness of the government to deal with these illegal activities in the next eight to ten decades to come where the operation of the illegal activities will be more complicated to comprehend and rampant.
The rate of drug use and deaths due to an overdose of drugs is likely to increase within the future periods. In four years, which is between 2015 and 2011, the government recorded a fifty percent increase in drug-related cases (Joyce, 2016). The primary drugs that are doing rounds in the streets of the US are methamphetamine, which constitutes thirty-three percent of drug-related incidents, followed closely by cocaine with eighteen percent, then heroin with seventeen percent and marijuana, crack and oxycodone following in that order with significant percentage abuse as well. The double increase in drug cases also brought about a double jump in the number of deaths, within the same duration of time (Astorga, 2015). According to the national vital statistics system for mortality, drug overdose death related cases reported every day were one hundred and twenty-nine, in the year 2014. Therefore, it will be a mere assumption to say that we are any closer to eliminating this threat.
In 2011, cyber-terrorism cases had grown by twenty percent. Within seven weeks, four million attempts to hack were apprehended. In 2014, a man was indicted with over ninety-two cyber terrorism hacks on the department of defence computers. All these instances lead one to conclude that the fight for the vice is way far from over. It’s a high time that we come together as a nation and unleash a relentless war on cyber terrorism. This can be made possible through the cooperation of the citizens with the relevant authorities.
From the case studies that we have been able to look at concerning drug trafficking and cyber terrorism, we still have a long way to go. Cases of both are increasing at an increasing rate day in day out. The damages that are caused by the two is as well very impactful to the society as more people are losing life to drugs and more danger posed to the nation. Not even a federal department is spared or safe from cyber terrorism. These problems are likely to prolong more than the predicted period if the right systems are not set in place.
