This week I’d like to focus less on the literature and more on the legend. Many scholars have dedicated their life to discovering Athur’s whereabouts and understanding his life. However, more and more scholars believe Arthur, as we read about him, probably didn’t exist. However, there was a King Arthur as well as many others similarly named and famed. Morte D’Arthur was the first time these stories were told in such detail and it was nostalgic as it was nearing the end of the time of Chivalry.

So your task this week is to identify your favorite part of this piece and explain why. Then, decide if you think knowing Arthur was real or simply a legend changes how you feel about it. For example, the funeral for Lancelot was a very strong part of Morte. Likely, this was as much a speech by Mallory to the decline of Chivalry as it was to Lancelot. How does this change the way you feel about both the scene you chose and the emotional scene of Lancelot’s funeral?
