Ethical & Legal Issue
HSE 340 Module One Short Paper Guidelines and Rubric
In addition to overarching federal healthcare service laws, there are state-specific regulations and statutes (laws) and licensure standards that must be adhered
to in order for health and human services agencies to operate. After reviewing the assigned chapter in the textbook, examine the human services ethical
standards that can align with some of these legal considerations.
You will submit a short paper that discusses the federal healthcare service laws that are state-specific regulations and statutes (laws) and licensure standards. You
will examine the human services ethical standards that can align with some of the legal considerations presented in the article.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
Describe at least one ethical issue and one legal issue that might arise if a patient is discharged too quickly from a hospital or residential setting when
better stabilization is required.
Describe implications if the patient is a minor child. How might the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which is a federal law that
protects the privacy of student education records, be a component of a discharge plan?
