A you should have read Chapter one (Exploring marriages and families today), most of us think about marriage age to be 18 and over, but in 48 states the age for marriages is lower than 18 years old. Marriage in U.S society is a legal contract into which two individuals (heterosexual or homosexual) who are of legal age may enter when they are not already married to someone else. The age required to marry varies by state and is usually from 16 to 18(most states set 17 or 18 as the requirement). In some states such as, Alabama individuals can marry at age 14 with parental or judicial consent. In California, individuals can marry at any age with parental consent.
