Forming an Innovative Healthcare Team to Promote a New Approach to a Current and Ongoing Healthcare Issue

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the process of searching for, appraising, and integrating the most relevant, best research evidence to answer a clinical question or address a health care challenge. The best research evidence is weighed along with patient preferences and values, organizational data, and professional expertise. For this assessment, you will learn about each of the six steps of EBP in detail and acquire a working knowledge about EBP as a problem-solving approach used in many health care settings.

Of note, there are many published processes regarding the steps of EBP. Some processes have more steps and some have fewer. However, the fundamental concepts are the same. For the purposes of organization, we will use the six step EBP process below in the courseroom:

1. Ask the clinical question.
2. Acquire the best evidence.
3. Apprise the evidence.
4. Implement the evidence.
5. Evaluating the outcomes.
6. Disseminate findings.

Instructions

For this assessment, you will choose a healthcare issue that needs improvement from an interprofessional team approach. You will choose four different types of healthcare professionals (e.g., a Woman’s Health APRN, Obgyn MD, Pharmacist, and Informaticist) to approach the issue (e.g., improved communication for maternal child health with laboring patients) from an evidence-based standpoint using the four provider perspectives. Provide two research studies that support your opinions and ideas. You will also create a critical appraisal of the research studies as a part of the discussion. You will end the discussion with one recommendation from the team that supports a potential improved healthcare outcome.

Your assignment should also meet the following requirements:

• Length: Your report should be 5–6 pages in length, excluding the title page and references pages.
• References: Include APA-formatted citations and references for a minimum of five scholarly references no more than five years old. Two of the articles must be research studies (one quantitative and one qualitative).
• APA Format: Use the APA Style Paper Tutorial [DOCX] to help you in writing and formatting your report. An abstract and running header are not required but be sure to include the following:
  • A title page and references page.
  • Appropriate section headings.
• Additional Information: An introduction and conclusion are required. Use the following section headings to format the body of your paper to ensure thorough content coverage and flow.
