he King′′ is a film now on Netflix telling the story of one of Britain′s most famous monarchs, King Henry V. I told you about this film earlier in the year and said there would be an extra credit opportunity. Here are the details: 1. Read the attached Smithsonian Magazine article explaining the ″true story′′ of Henry V and how both Shakespeare and this new film portray him. The article is an excellent overview and will give you background to more fully judge the film. (Be sure to watch the official trailer, too.) 2. Watch the film. If you or your family do not have Netflix, perhaps see who in your circle does and arrange a viewing — the more, the merrier! 3. Submit a 3 pages chunky paragraph′s answering the following prompt by the end of the semester: Henry has long been viewed as a young monarch who had to grow into the role of king and learn what it takes to become a leader; this is certainly how Shakespeare treats him and the new film as well. Being sure to mention specifics to prove your points, explain 3 incidents or ways that Henry is portrayed as evolving from a wayward prince to a confident king.
