Humor analysis

Description This is a learning exercise where writing will help you to understand and analyze humor that you encounter in your everyday lives, as well as to develop ideas for your Independent Project (Presentation) and Final Essay at the end of the semester. Instructions: Like any journal or diary, this will be a running personal account of things you find funny in your everyday life. It does not matter if not everyone finds them funny. What is important is that the way you see it makes it funny/absurd/dark, etc. (You may write about past experiences but only in the case if you do not have enough of current material.) Observational Humor: the goal of the journal is for you to regularly reflect on your own life and find the humor in it that you may not have found had you not been looking for it (think of the “SantaLand Diaries” by David Sedaris). Like Sedaris you may want or need to embellish or amplify (exaggerate) in order to bring out or discover the humorous perspective of daily things. There is an entry posted as an example for your information/inspiration. You must write in full sentences and in paragraph form: no bullet points, incomplete thoughts or fragmentary sentences. The goal is to take your raw experience and fashion it into a complete coherent anecdote that stands on its own. You should explain very briefly why your story is funny.
