HW #2 Page 1 of 2 Homework #2 • This homework is required. • Students may use SAS UE, SAS 9.3 in the Sands Lab, or SAS 9.4. Due Date: In class and given to the TA, on one of the following days: Tuesday, Sept 20th and Thursday, Sept 22nd. Tuesday, Sept 27th and Thursday, Sept 29th. Mastery Based Topic Ratings The difficulty of mastery topics will be ranked on a four-point scale based on difficulty (with illustrative, but incomplete descriptions associated with each level.) = Basic/Beginner usage of SAS procedures, SAS coding, or statistics (Knowledge or Comprehension ) = Intermediate usage of procedures or straightforward interpretation of results required (Application) = Multiple step problems, but directed (Analysis or multi-step Application) = Advanced; independent problem solving or work (Synthesis) Learning Objectives • Part A: o Working with Large Data (mastery based objectives: ) o Descriptive Statistics (mastery based objectives: ) Special Notes • When you turn in your homework to the TA in class, make sure it has a cover sheet with: o Your name, HW #2, Fall 2016, and Econ 453. • This homework is individual homework; there is no group work allowed. Grading Rubric A If the part is clearly done and correct. Minor errors may be allowed. C If the part is done, but incorrectly or poorly; It should be redone; Moderate demonstration of understanding of the task; work is sloppy or partially complete. F If the part is done, but incorrectly or poorly. It should be redone. Almost no demonstration of understanding of the task; work is incomplete. NA If part is not submitted. HW #2 Page 2 of 2 Part A • Download and unzip the pisastudentdatac file. o It should be about 1.2 Gig in size and it is on D2L. • Insert options nofmterr; into your code. This allows SAS to ignore formats; this way you will not have to read in the formats. • Use a libname statement to create a libref. Use the libref to work with your large data set, that is, to do the three procedures in this homework. • Use Proc Contents with the varnum option to determine the variables by position order. o Don’t include this with your homework as it will be a lot of pages. • Provide a Proc Print of the first 15 observations, use a label option, but only use variables in position 20 to 29. • Provide a Proc Freq to determine the number of levels for variables in position 20 to 29. • Use comments in your code to make it clear to someone else • Do not turn in your Output for your Proc Contents as that will be large. • In your output to turn in have: o Proc Print from above o Proc Freq output from above • Provide a printout of your SAS log. o Denote (highlight or circle) how long it takes to determine the number of levels for the 10 variables in the Proc Freq bullet point. • Organize your homework in the following order: o your cover sheet, o sas output, o sas code, o sas log.
