Did the author choose to compare or contrast? There is no denying that meat is part of a well-balanced diet. Poultry, fish and red meat are rich in nutrients the human body needs in order to thrive and maintain its function. Meat is the number one source of protein and iron. Protein is needed for cell repair and growth and development. Meat-based proteins are the body’s only source for complete proteins, which are proteins that contain amino acids. Meat also provides the body with iron. Without iron, red blood cells would not be regulated and oxygen could not be carried to other cells. Omega-3 fatty acids and Zinc are also nutrients found in meat. When humans consume meat, the body absorbs the Omega-3 fatty acids which promote cardiovascular health and the zinc which is responsible for keeping the immune system strong and functioning. The inner workings of the human body depend on these nutrients. Unfortunately, these benefits outweigh the risks of eating meat only when they are consumed correctly and most Americans do not have a balanced diet.According to the Vegetarian Research Group, “between two and three million adult Americans have chosen to implement a vegetarian diet into their lifestyle.” Considering that vegetarian meals do not include meat, a well-balanced vegetarian diet includes vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes and protein. It’s not fair to assume that only meat eaters have unbalanced diets. Vegetarians don’t always have balance in their diet either, but almost all of the food options a vegetarian is prone to eat are rich in vitamins and nutrients like fiber, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Fiber helps regulate the digestive system which in turn acts as a mediator for the metabolism and intestinal health. Potassium also helps regulate the digestive system, but it is also essential for the proper functioning of the heart, kidneys and the body’s muscles. Calcium is essential for bone health and growth. Magnesium is very important for transporting the body’s energy and the production of protein. In fact, meat eaters often have insufficient levels of magnesium, therefore their bodies are not creating protein but rather depending on the overconsumption of meat. Unfortunately, iron deficiency appears quite often in vegetarian eaters. Because meat is the only complete source of iron, many vegetarians do not receive nearly enough iron in their diet. Unless they are taking iron supplements by way of a multivitamin or other source, they are at risk for thin blood or anemia.Select one:a. compare, the author is showing the differencesb. compare, the author is showing the similaritiesc. contrast, the author is showing the differencesd. contrast, the author is showing the similaritiesQuestion 13Not yet answeredMarked out of 1.00Flag questionQuestion textIn formal writing, abbreviations ________.Select one:a. can be used sparinglyb. should never be usedc. can be used depending on the instructor’s preferenced. can be used depending on the disciplineQuestion 14Not yet answeredMarked out of 1.00Flag questionQuestion textWhich sentence reflects proper punctuation of a familiar abbreviation?Select one:a.
