Interview Skills Video
For decades, we have embraced the face-to-face interview, typically in person and sometimes by phone.
One-way video interviews are an increasing method of doing the first round of interviews, although phone interviews (Links to an external site.) are still also widely used.
The purpose of the one-way video interview and the phone interview are typically the same: confirm that the candidate meets the basic requirements for the job. One-way or on-demand video interviews have emerged as a time-saving option for recruiters who just have too many screening interviews to get through.
What is a one-way video or digital interview? They allow you to pick out a few interview questions, record them, and then send them to multiple candidates you want to screen. In return, they record their answers on video as well, and send them your way. Then you can quickly scan through all the videos and pick out the best.
There are dozens of on-demand video interview platforms available, such as Montage (Links to an external site.), Hirevue (Links to an external site.), Interview Stream (Links to an external site.), and GreenJob Interview (Links to an external site.), and they claim that these interviews are a great way to improve the candidate experience. The videos allow the candidates to appear polished and think through the questions, while recruiters can get a better grasp of who the candidates are.
For this assignment, you are going to videotape yourself answering two common interview questions of your choice. You may use zoom, screencastomatic, or the video recording feature in Canvas. Your video must be embedded. Instructions and grading rubric below.
