 The seminar is called “literary approaches to literary texts” Methodology – using AntConc to get Keywords – compare “The Handmaids Tale” to “brave, new world”, another dystopian novel (with AntConc) – looking for keywords and certain, redundant expressions Aims: – looking at the connotations and meanings of these expressions – to find the differences in vocabulary, maybe also dependend on the different styles of the authors I didn’t think of a specific research question, you are free here. My professor said that I could work with AntConc (i heard this costs extra, if yes, tell me how much more) and compare verbs and how they support power relations and the system, e.g. verbs like to whisper – maybe also looking at how language is redefined and manipulated to maintain power relations, oppress people’s resistance and justify it through biblical references ? Research Question (Not sure yet, still can be changed, maybe regarding to work only with verbs and not with the totalitarian system at all) How is language used to maintain the totalitarian system? (there should be two different strands of arguments: biblical references and power relations, which can be further divided)
