Case Study – D-Day and the Bulge. Two battles often define the American military experience in World War II. The first is the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. The second is the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944. Compare and contrast these two American victories by completing the following.
  1. Provide a brief overview of the Allied strategy for securing an entry into the European continent.
  2. Identify the challenges faced by the U.S. Army upon arrival in France on D-Day.
  3. Explain why the U.S. Army succeeded at Normandy in securing and advancing into Europe.
  4. Provide a brief overview of the American predicament in the Battle of the Bulge.
  5. Explain the challenges for the American military at Bastogne. Why were they caught in such a predicament?
  6. Explain how the U.S. military achieved a victory, despite the obstacles previously identified, and overcame the German advantages.
  7. Identify two characteristics of these two military successes that would define the American military experience through the rest of the century.
The paper must be two to three pages in length and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least two scholarly resources other than the textbook to support your claims and subclaims.
