My Honorary Doctorate Speech
My name is John Mary. I pride myself as a lifelong learner who trained at the Morgan State University in Science teaching. I have specialized in microbiology, which was challenging to acquire, but worth all the work. Additionally, I have conducted numerous in-services and trained several pre-service teacher cohorts. I am also a seasoned registered nurse and a Medicare director of nursing for life Inc. My achievements include recognition by the alumni teacher of the year awards, names as an Akwa Ibom State Prestigious Woman and earned scholarships. Continually, my passion for education generates from my 35-year experience in the field. I am currently pursuing my doctoral program in Science and happy to say that I am about to publish my dissertation on negotiating teaching beliefs in a constructivist teaching education program.
Apart from my professional life, I am a mother of two successful sons. Raising a family while pursuing my doctoral program was not easy, but I never lost hope. I also had to juggle my career with taking care of my husband who suffered from diabetes mellitus disorder. I had to put my doctoral program on hold for 12 years but kept working on my writing. I am also a great cook and currently working on a cookbook for healthier African cuisine turkey The Golden Plate. It has been an enjoyable experience raising my sons, so I do not have regrets taking longer to finish my doctoral program. In 2016, I created an organization called Empathkare whose aim is promoting empathy. I believe in building myself every day and not letting any obstacles get in the way. I embrace every challenge and take it as a lesson to be better in life.
