new relationship with God

Question

This is a student response about few questions:
 1.     What practical steps could

be taken to build a relationship with a follower of this worldview who might be a co-worker, neighbor, etc.?

Lead with love, follow with respect. According to Dean Halverson’s Overview of Islam (2004), “it is vital for a Muslim to see Christianity not as a religion, but as a living, new relationship with God” (pg. 6). Based on this premise, I would say that being kind, courteous, and respectful to both their person as well as their belief will go a long way towards building relations with them.

2.     What barriers/hindrances would exist with presenting the Christian gospel to a person from this worldview?

One barrier that exist would be the Muslim’s belief that there is “no God but Allah, and Muhammed is his final prophet” (Hindson and Caner, (2008), Islam). To try to introduce the Christian gospel in a way that debunks the notion that Muhammed is God’s final prophet will be difficult. Another hindrance with presenting the Christian gospel to a person following Islam would be the Muslim belief that the Bible has been corrupted (Halverson, 2004). Because of this, many of the things being explained about Christianity may be viewed as being without credibility.

3.     What personal challenges might you have with presenting the gospel?

The only personal challenge that I might have presenting the gospel would be in the area of being properly educated. Past attempts at sharing the gospel has taught me that I need to be able to support my message with valid evidence. Understanding the exhortation of Jude 1:3 (Holy Bible, KJV), I believe that in order to “earnestly contend” for the faith I would also have to be free of the fear of failure. Sometimes, on occasions, the fear of failure is present in me.References
