Othello
Description Othello contains language that would seem appallingly racist to our ear, but as Feerick tells us, the “race” that informs Othello is entirely different from ours. How is it different? How does this difference affect our reading of the play? In answering the question, do not forget that Othello is the military arm of Venice—a position of high status, and one not given to a minority in a racist (in our terms) culture.
