Paper # 2: Comparative Essay
Directions:
The purpose of a comparative essay is to put two pieces of work in conversation with each other. You are analyzing the composition of rhetoric and how it is employed for political purposes. The comparison should consider the ways in which the authors’ claims are similar, how they differ, and how they work to illuminate each authors’ purpose. Who are these authors writing for? What are their most significant claims? What evidence do they provide? How do these claims compare to each other? How does diction and the articulation of language contribute to effectiveness? Is there any use of ethos, pathos, and/or logos? If so, for what ends? Your paper should include a clear and identifiable thesis, properly cited supporting evidence, an introduction, body, and conclusion, as well as a Works Cited page.
Format requirements: 6-8 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, MLA citation-style
