Proof of God′s Existence

In this essay, discuss the four proofs (counting Pascal’s wager as a ‘proof’) for the existence of God. Two proofs should be done in depth, and two in brief. (Do only Descartes’ ontological argument, the one indicated in the handout as the Meditation 5 proof.) A good account of each proof as an argument is required in order to assess the proof for its persuasiveness. So, for each proof, is this a good argument? Does it withstand the criticisms, or weaken in the face of them? For the two that you choose to treat briefly, criticisms need only be, again, briefly mentioned. If we get to it in class (hopefully we will), you may also include the Problem of Evil. Please refrain from referring to personal beliefs as a justification for acceptance of any one belief. Your concern is only with the argument’s persuasiveness, given the evidence utilized by each, and the criticisms included in the handout.
