What usually comes into your mind when we talk about The American Red Cross? This is one of the biggest community organizations in the United States of America. I truly love the Red Cross because it plays a critical and leading role in protecting the safety of donors and patients and increasing the availability of blood.  In other words, the Red Cross helps to save lives which is why we should support it.
Their commitment as an organization is to give anyone in need of blood a fighting chance to live a normal life. To provide life-saving blood and blood products to patients is our main goal and our mission is to help people in times of emergency and disasters. Helping us by giving blood not only helps others, but will give you a sense of pride and gratitude.
Researching data into the American Red Cross will be pretty easy.  Besides looking onto the Red Cross website, I plan on visiting different Red Cross organizations to see if there are any differences in how they operate.  Review and attend educational programs and/or seminars as well. Take away positive approaches that has helped those specific community organizations strive in its commitment to excellence.  Find what has made them successful (i.e. blood drives, posting flyers, speaking to schools, etc.)  This will give me broader understanding of what it would take to be a thriving organization in my community.
Learning how to make a difference in a community is important.  Based off our learning thus far, you have to have a combination of knowledge, skills, values and the motivation to make a difference.  Through research and giving is how I look at service learning and civic engagement.  Through this course, reading and responding to my classmate discussion topics helps me to learn and engagement in their comments.  These small things are teaching tools that affects me on how to better engage in service, community, service and learning.
