Select five variables from the data set to prepare for a descriptive analysis.
1. Open the Excel file Data set 1
2. Select five variables from the data set to prepare for a descriptive analysis.
3. Assign definitions for the values provided in each variable column. For example, for the
variable of Gender, you could assign a value of “0” to represent Males, and a value of “1” to represent Females.
For the variable Sleep Aids, you could assign a value of “0” for No and a value of “1” for Yes.
4. Classify each of the five variables you have selected based on variable type. For example, ratio (continuous or interval), dichotomous, categorical, or ordinal.
5. Remove the missing data from the columns containing the five variables selected for analysis. You can delete the entire cell row for any applicable missing data in the data set.
6. Conduct a random selection procedure to attain your desired sample size from the cases provided in the data set containing the five selected variables. For example, you have the option of selecting every third, fourth, or fifth case. You may also choose a higher value if you desire a smaller sample size such as selecting every 10th or 11thcase.
7. Open a blank Excel spreadsheet.
8. Transfer the randomly sampled data from Data set 1 to
the blank Excel spreadsheet.
9. Save the blank Excel spreadsheet file as <YOUR FIRST NAME> and <LAST NAME>followed by Sample Dataset 1. For example, John Doe Sample Data set 1.
10. Run a descriptive analysis and make sure that values are provided on the following values as a result of the analysis:
•Mean.
•Standard error
•Median.
•Mode.
•Standard deviation.
•Sample variance.
•Range.
•Sum.
Report the results of your descriptive data analysis (including how you classified the 10 variables you selected for your analysis) and provide a narrative account of the step-by-step process you followed to conduct the analysis.
