Seven Years War
Does The Last of the Mohicans accurately depict colonist-Indian relations during the Seven Years’ War? I. Key Information For this assignment, you will write a short paper (500-600 words) that answers the question: Does The Last of the Mohicans accurately depict colonist-Indian relations during the Seven Years’ War? NO outside research is needed for this assignment. NO works cited page is needed for this assignment. You must also incorporate one direct quotation from a relevant assigned reading into each paragraph of your essay, not including the conclusion. This assignment requires that you analyze European-Indian relations using EACH of the following sources: 1. Give Me Liberty!, Chap. 4; 2. Seven Years’ War in North America (PDF); 3. The film, The Last of the Mohicans (1992); 4. Lecture PowerPoint on colonist-Indian relations and the Seven Years’ War. II. Main Requirements There is no right or wrong answer to the question above. The purpose of this assignment is to answer the central question of the prompt by doing each of the following: 1. Illustrate a clear understanding of European-Indian relations during the Seven Years’ War; 2. Provide contextual analysis of The Last of the Mohicans by briefly describing the socio-economic conditions that caused and shaped the Seven Years’ War; 3. Develop a clear argument (i.e. thesis statement) that directly responds to the central question of the prompt; 4. Incorporate one direct quotation from two different primary sources in the Seven Years’ War in North America PDF; 5. Incorporate at least one direct quotation from Foner; 6. Make direct connections between film and the history it represents by linking your description and analysis of events during the Seven Years’ War to specific scenes in the film; 7. Incorporate one direct quotation in each paragraph except the conclusion. NOTE: You can use the lecture PowerPoint for background information, but you must still incorporate quotations from the assigned readings as well. NOTE: All quotations should include MLA-style parenthetical citations—the author’s last name and the page number(s) from which the quotation is taken inside parentheses—at the end of the sentence where the quotation is given. Again, a works cited page is NOT needed for this assignment. Your analytical paper should be FOUR paragraphs long. Paragraph one is your introduction; it should be 150-200 words long and provide general information about the Seven Years’ War and European-Indian relations before and during the war. Towards that end, it should: 1. Briefly summarize key details about the war—how it began and how it ended—and address the roles Native Americans played during the war. 2. Mention the film by name and develop a clear thesis statement that directly answers the central question of the prompt. 3. Identify two examples, or pieces of evidence, that support your argument (i.e. thesis). NOTE: The two examples you provide here should be the same two examples you explain in more detail in paragraphs two and three (see below). 4. One direct quotation from Give Me Liberty! that provides context about the Seven Years’ War and European-Indian relations. Paragraph two should be 150 words long and identify one key event or development that supports your thesis.
