Part 1: Case analysis
As a basis for the first part of this assignment, select a manager and an organization of your choice. Make sure that you select a manager who is publicly known, and about whom you can find and provide reliable information for your case analysis (e.g., interviews, reports, websites).
Critically analyse the role of this manager for the organisation from the perspective of Organisational Behaviour (OB) with a focus on theories of leadership and followership. Use at least one leadership theory and one followership theory to explain how this manager impacts the employees and the organisation. Conclude your analysis with what you believe we can learn from this manager for ethical and responsible behaviour in organisations.
In your analysis, discuss current research from the field of OB. We expect that you cite
current research published in scientific journals to support your arguments in the case
analysis. We recommend that you quote selected parts from your case materials (e.g.,
interviews, reports, websites), and that you include the materials in an Appendix.

 

Part 2: Personal reflections
The second part of the assignment is based on the TED talk by Alain de Botton, “A kinder,
gentler philosophy of success”. The TED talk is available from our DUO site.
Based on what you have learned in the OB Module, provide your personal reflections on the
following statement from this TED talk: “It’s perhaps easier now than ever before to make a
good living. It’s perhaps harder than ever before to stay calm, to be free of career anxiety.”
We expect that you cite the relevant scientific literature and discuss current research from
the field of OB to support your personal reflections. We recommend that you also use
examples from your own working experience in the past or how you see yourself and your
career in the future.
