The Application of Data to Problem-Solving

Application of data to problem-solving
In the current world, we are living, a significant number of professions involve the use of data in the accomplishment of their assignments. The data can be used for the sake of record keeping for future reference or study on trends of a particular factor of interest. After the required information is achieved, it is then used to make a more technical and informed decision. This can be by judging and making judgments based on predictions of the trend or correlation of an event to another .health care is one of the renowned professions when it comes to the use of data and statistics in a day to day operations.
Application of data to the knowledge of nursing helps identify problems earlier (McGonigle, 2017). Observation of a change in a patient’s character under surveillance is made easy. This is because there is previously stored data of the patient that is made available for access when needed. Moreover, the trends of the vital signs of patients are interpreted and arranged to plan for an active kind of response action. This is what is referred to as a prediction model because it gives insight into the health care system on what to expect.
Overdosage or under dosage of drugs can lead to fatal results. For this reason, a nurse keeps data on drug administration to patients. They keep records of the exact time a drug is administered for future reference. Imagine a scenario where nurses would not be keeping track of the medications given to patients. Cases of a wrong medicine administered or overdosage by patients would be a recurrent theme. Given the high number of patients nurses attend to, it is hard to remember and keep track of them without having to keep an actual record.
Health care information can be acquired through the patient medical records, medical researches as well as the local standards. Collection of data can be done through lab experimentation or interviewing. Besides the focus on personal data, health care information can be compared to give an insight into a more general and broad perspective (Nagle, 2017). For example, a comparison can be made of different geographical areas to determine the extent of the effect of a particular phenomenon. For example, research can be conducted to evaluate regions which are most affected by malaria. Let’s consider county A and county B. The logistics of drug use between the two counties will at the end of the day reflect the area that is most affected by the disease compared to the other (Sweeney, J. (2017). If the consumption of malaria drugs is more in A compared to B, then it would mean that county A is the most affected county by malaria. This will in return help in the formulation of the right mitigation processes.
In conclusion, just as in many professions and fields; recording, management and easy access to data in the health care system are paramount. Application of data in healthcare is used to make financial budgets. The patient’s data will shed light on the drug that is mostly consumed. Therefore, the leader of the nurses or rather the medics will be able to make the right budget allocation to specific medications. Drugs that are mostly consumed will be prioritized and allocated a comparatively bigger budget compared to the less prescribed or consumed drugs.
