My Post:

What should be the role of health policy at the state level?

In the United States, a kid is required to attend preschool only if his or her guardians provide valid immunization certificates or an exemption request. In order to limit the number of vaccine-preventable diseases, state immunization regulations for daycare facilities and school enrollment are vital resources. In addition to public school students, people attending private schools and daycare facilities are also covered by this legislation. School vaccines and exemptions are mandated by state law, as are methods for enforcing them. While medical exemptions are commonplace, several states’ legislation also permits religious exemptions. If a parent requests that their child not be immunized because of their strong religious beliefs, certain states will provide an exception form. The bill protects the public’s health from being jeopardized because of an individual’s personal beliefs. Religious interests must be defined in Senate Bill 277, and exclusions based on individual views are not allowed (Omer et al., 2018). To put it another way, if vaccination protocols are followed with strict compliance and monitoring criteria, they can lead to higher vaccination coverage and thus lower levels of VPDS.

What should be the role of health policy at the institutional (or provider) level?

In many cases, outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) pose a hazard to health centers, resulting in high death rates and potentially life-threatening incidents between healthcare professionals and their patients. Medical staff must be protected from VPDs, hence it is critical to recognize mandated immunization programs that focus on this issue. HCP immunization policy, enactment frameworks for both obligatory and voluntary vaccination, and healthcare facility involvement are critical to ensuring widespread immunization. In the United States, for example, most healthcare facilities with vaccination take-up rates close to 100% have implemented mandatory influenza immunization programs (Maltezou & Poland, 2020).
