In an experiment to measure the speed of sound in air, a speaker directs sound towards a wall, along a path perpendicular to the wall. The wall reflects the sound wave and this produces a standing wave. A microphone and electronic measuring device is used to measure the amplitude of the sound at different distances from the wall.
