IN MATLAB CODE 1. Use MATLAB functions max(x), min(x) and range(x) to find the maximum, minimum, and range value of x which is the INCOME column. 2. Divide the range into N = 10 equal-length segments (hereafter called “bins”) and for each bin, find its bound (aj, bj) as well as its center cj for j = 1, 2, . . . , 10. Suggestion: It might be convenient to store aj ’s in a vector a, bj ’s in a vector b and cj ’s in a vector c with an appropriate length. 3. Sort the data and place each INCOME value xi into that bin whose lower bound is less than or equal to xi and whose upper bound is greater than xi; thereafter, for each bin count the number of xi assigned to it (= nj ). The vectors are the following: x = [79.37 73.57 71.48 70.36 71.58 66.06 103.61 56.51 68.00 90.09 107.62 61.00 65.31 64.66 86.08 79.95 80.57 64.26 54.08 79.69 80.52 61.32 75.85 63.69 70.99 58.58 57.18 64.31 54.23 65.89 60.08 66.76 61.96 124.31 76.82 66.75 66.67 68.90 61.72 60.81 52.73 58.58 59.61 73.94 70.57 52.05 58.33 75.40 54.83 74.94]; y = [499.0 698.0 274.9 318.9 249.9 289.0 415.0 359.0 278.4 499.0 749.0 198.5 380.0 297.5 499.0 329.9 635.0 189.9 253.9 291.0 435.0 169.9 429.9 294.0 425.0 266.5 289.0 219.0 164.9 248.0 305.5 230.0 218.0 998.0 324.9 269.0 325.0 309.0 235.0 266.0 189.9 219.0 219.9 244.9 291.9 250.0 159.9 319.9 219.9 368.9];

Read the case and answer the question given at the end. You are required to submit a written document. Carly Florina: Hired and Fired at Hewlett- Packard Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) is a leading provider of technology products and services to both individual and corporate consumers. HP’s popular products include personal computers, printers, and printer accessories like inkjet refill cartridges. HP’s CEO, Carleton “Carly” Fiorina, and the company’s other top executives recently decided that HP should pay $19 billion to acquire Compaq, another personal computer manufacturer. According to Fiorina, acquiring Compaq would help HP sell more products while simultaneously reducing the company’s cost structure. Regardless of these benefits, the decision to acquire Compaq provided Carly Fiorina, HP’s CEO, with an enormous leadership challenge. In the process of planning for HP’s acquisition of Compaq, HP’s external advisors warned of the difficulties associated with acquiring a large company such as Compaq. In the two weeks following the announcement of the Compaq acquisition, HP’s stock price plummeted nearly 40 percent. This suggested that some people thought HP would face significant challenges in successfully acquiring Compaq. Scott McNealy, CEO of HP’s rival Sun Microsystems, summed up the views of many by describing the proposed acquisition as “a slow-motion collision of two garbage trucks”. At first, Fiorina had a difficult time explaining the benefits of the Compaq acquisition. Through effective communication and leadership, however, she convinced a number of skeptics, and the acquisition was finalized. Since the deal’s completion, Fiorina has used her leadership skills to integrate the operations of both companies. She developed a team of 30 executives to oversee the integration of the two companies. With her support, the team talked to other executives and consultants to develop tactics that would ease the integration of the two companies. For 2 example, the team decided to give acquired employees (i.e. Former Compaq employees) bonuses and salary increases in an effort to keep them as employees. Over time, though, the prospects of the Compaq acquisition that Fiorina fought for declined. To convince investors of the acquisition’s merits, Fiorina proposed several profitability goals for the company. As the acquisition progressed, HP began to miss these specific goals due to intense competition from Dell and IBM. On one occasion, after the company missed its profit targets, Florina told executives on a conference called that “You’ve let HP down”, you’ve let the board down and you’ve let me down. Perhaps unsurprisingly key executives within HP began to leave the company to joint competitors. After almost six years as HP’s CEO, the board of directors fired Fiorina. Mark V. Hurd was named as Fiorina’s replacement. After being in his new position for approximately two years, Hp’s market value doubled. (Source: Certo and Certo (2010), Modern Management, p.361) As a professional manager, critically analyze why Carly Fiorina , the former CEO, Hewlett – Packard (HP) was failed as a leader in the company and what sort of advices would be suggested to improve her success as a leader in her next job.

Bertaline And AlphaOmega Are Small Drug Companies. Bertaline Has Recently Signed An Agreement With

Bertaline and AlphaOmega are small drug companies. Bertaline has recently signed an agreement with a big pharmaceutical company from India, and obtained from them a patent on a new antibiotic that is effective against some bacteria that are resistant to other drugs that are currently in the market. Unfortunately, after running some tests, the company realized the drug had severe side effects, making it unsuitable except for patients who expected desperately to have a drug that could help them. Ownership of this drug is worth $60 (million) to Bertaline under the current situation. AlphaOmega, through their own development, obtained a patent on another drug that is of no therapeutic value in itself, generating no current income currently for the company. However, when combined in a particular way with the Bertaline antibiotic, it dramatically reduces the negative side effects. The value of the two drugs together is estimated at $100 (million). AlphaOmega intends to sell its patent to Bertaline and it is negotiating to do that ASAP. What price would be implied by the Nash bargaining solution?
