By the end of World War I, the U.S. Department of Labor had established policies to ensure fair wages and decent working conditions so that employees were treated fairly (Grossman, 1973). Presently, regardless of the industry, unions are often formed because employees are dissatisfied with their jobs. Either the wages are too low or the working conditions are poor. As health expenditures continue to increase, healthcare reform will continue to focus on cost reduction within the healthcare system. As a human resource manager in healthcare, what steps or strategies can your organization take to proactively reduce the probability or likelihood of union formation?
