Work Welfare Reform
Welfare refers to the financial support given to the poor citizens to boost their standards of living with the provision of basic needs (Investopedia). The money source is basically given by the government or other Christianity ventures such as charities. According to the history of welfare, it started with the government act of this support as a sign of goodwill to its citizens due to its care. Reforms then followed as time went on to the amendment of right, that it was a right of citizens to get the support from the government basing their angle as poor citizens (Nam, Yunju, 2005). This paper, on the other hand, advocates for more reform on the current welfare system by reinstating that recipients of the welfare by the government should also work.
The first reason for the reform is to discourage dependency on a citizen. From the past carried out the census, a lot of people have been categorized as poor and below standards. More of the people have taken upon the struggle of filling and getting approval for the welfare funding instead of struggling for jobs to boost their living standards. In other words, people have turned out to be lazy and highly dependent on the government. With the government, a new reform of making the current recipients work, could help in the withdrawal of laziness and dependency notion n people. They will once again regain their self-effort power and become independent which is a relief to the government. Besides, once the recipients get busy into work, it will discourage the new intendants people who are lazy to get in the working category.
Another reason is to build up esteem. Like described above, the working initiative might revive the welfare recipients acknowledgment that they can be independent once again. The build of self-esteem here basically will be a result of positive progress where one will discover that more change can be made with extra effort in work. This, in turn, will highly result to more creativity of ways of earning more income such as finding additional jobs to ensure more financial flow for the desired change. Additional to that, if one of welfare recipient succeeds in life over the working initiative, the fellow recipient will also become motivated from the act. It is logic that people notice a change on other people on the same ground. This means that fellow recipients could be either friends or neighbors, and know all about each other.
Once this practice is acted upon, a sure fact is that the welfare budget will be reduced. Since the motive of this task is to activate working mentality of the recipients, some of the funds will be reduced because they are earning. The reduced funds can as well be used by the government in the country developments. Perhaps, the Government could start up a new industry which could provide more employment opportunity and new product creation. This shows that the reduced funds can be used for the developments of the country.
Another solid fact for the support of this idea is the reduction of poverty. It is common knowledge that provision of basic needs does not reduce poverty but only levels the living standards. This means that the recipients who do not work, only live to survive. What about the idea of these people wearing fancy clothes and enjoying their free time on beaches and traveling. The only solution to bring those ideas to reality is advocating work on these people. If at all they could work for a while, still with the basic help from the government, more ideas of living a better might arise. Needs are known to grow as the income increases, and it is more likely the needs of a better life will arise with an extra coin in the pocket, and that is the perfect way of fighting poverty.
Economy boost will also end up as a byproduct upon the incorporation of this reform. This comes from regulation of the source of welfare funds which is the tax. Once the recipient starts working, to a level of independent stability; one, the government will withdraw the funding on them and two, they will be taxed like any other working citizen. With basic mathematics, that is a big plus enabled by this reform. Less money is used on other recipients and more is added from the tax. Under this reform, the country could end up having the best economy among other countries, as the increased funds discussed, could be used on extra inventions that would assure more funds inflow for the country.
Welfare recipients include all different type of people. Some of them might have been highly educated students who lacked the chance of a job because of different reason. Others might be intelligent people who have great job experience but ended up in the poverty state due to one reason or another. The point is, there might be a lot of creative and innovative people in this category, who cannot express or activate their ability because of limited opportunity. If at all this reform can be initiated by the government and create a recommendation to them basing on one’s qualification, the ability could not be wasted. Maybe they could end up innovating new products and ideas that could in turn help in job creation as well as government economy boost.
This reform could help in mental upgrading. There is a saying that states “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop” which can be worked on. To elaborate on the saying in this perspective, let’s take the non-working recipient who only has shelter and food on the plate. This means most of the time, idling is the subject and negative ideas such as the use of drugs, which results in violent activities to attain the drug money result. This could be the cause of more poverty and society moral destruction. From the given example, it would be right to say if these people were busy doing something, there would be no room for such thoughts. So, work for these people could result in bad ideas obstruction and mental upgrade. Positive mentality will be incorporated as one sees better opportunities to work on rather than negative thoughts.
Lastly but not least, with work reinforcement on welfare recipients can highly result to societal growth. As it is common knowledge that people are bond with relationships; family relationships and friendship relationships. It happens that people in the same society have this relationship among them and always care about each other. People of welfare society also have that kind of relationship as well. Activation of work ethnicity in this society by the government can highly result in the entire growth of this particular society, inform of living standards and development. To explain this, once the healthy and the able group join up to recommended jobs by the government, it is for sure that an extra coin will be added to the team. This extra coin will be used on the recipient family and more likely to friends. For example, an employee welfare recipient man will use the salary to get his relatives children or close friend to a better school if able to because of the bond. Another one could be funded rental to a fellow friend to start a business in the society and refund later on success. Work for these people is the key to the society developments because of the extra money attained.
In conclusion, Work reform on the welfare system can be stated as the best reform of fighting poverty (Danziger, Sandra, et al, 2000). The main purpose of this reform is to discourage dependency on the government and create self-independence motivation. Self-independence motivation will be as a result of work getting rid of; laziness, idling, mental growth and an opportunity to the people in this class. Either way, it all depends on the government’s effort in the will of bringing these changes and actively participating in job recommendation for these people in running business.
