Two themes of INGO management: its structure (within an INGO or “family”) and partnerships with others.

Question Description

This module’s reading focuses on two themes of INGO management: its structure (within an INGO or “family”) and partnerships with others.
Based on this module’s reading, I would like you to conduct research on various types of organizational structures and discuss the pros and cons of each structure, i.e. local autonomy vs. centralization, coordination and avoiding the overlap of programs, top-down decision making vs. participatory decision making. What do you find most interesting about INGO’s structure (or what’s your take away from the readings regarding INGOs’ structure and management issues)?
This module’s reading also focuses on partnership. There are several aspects of partnership: with primary stakeholders (usually the local community), with government, with the private sector, with other INGOs, or a mix. Some of the issues associated with partnership include empowering local people (indigenous programs, local ownership, etc.), power dynamics among partners, goal alignment, etc.
Anything particular from the reading that stimulates your thoughts on partnership? What are some of the key factors of a successful partnership? Do you think there are occasions that collaboration may not make sense? Here is an article on this topic (what’s your take on this? Do you agree or disagree with the authors’ perspective)
This discussion requires two posts, an initial post and two response post. Later in the day will need to respond to two other posting. 100 words each so a total of 200 in responses to two other students. Total of 850- 950 words in discussion post, reference not included in the word counting. I will upload the required pdfs

Case:  Gaming Industry and Ubisoft Articles and please listen to the first 15 minutes of the NPR podcast on the gaming industry posted on BB (Thought Paper – bold questions only)
(the podcast is not available except with access, just ignore it)
Case Questions:
1.) How would you characterize the pressures for local responsiveness and the pressures for global integration in the gaming industry (using Yip’s framework)?
2.) What do you think are the main competitive advantages of Ubisoft (important value chain activities include R&D/inputs, production, distribution and marketing and sales)?  Using the information you have in the readings, how would you describe Ubisoft’s international expansion strategy using the IR Framework?
3.) How well does Ubisoft’s strategy fit with the industry analysis you did in Q1?  Given your industry and firm analysis (your responses to Q1 and Q2), would you suggest any changes at Ubisoft?  If not, why not and if yes, what changes do you suggest?
4.) Please think about the managerial orientations we discussed on 10/23 (using the chapter reading assigned for 10/23).  Would you describe the managerial orientation at Ubisoft as a decentralized federation, a coordinated federation or a centralized hub? Why? Which type of relationship (from the 10/23 reading) would be best for Ubisoft and why?
