What am I required to do in this assignment? |
The Practice Report Title: “Managing Across Cultures” You are asked to prepare a report on the above topic, “Managing Across Cultures”. Also, in class we looked at the Power Point entitled “The Assignment” and “Writing for Success”. In “The Assignment”, you have been given the Introduction: IntroductionIn today’s global economy, working with people from different cultures is becoming the norm. Although this brings many rewards, it also introduces challenges for both workers and management alike. All managers know that motivating their staff is the key to a successful business. To do this, they must understand what drives their staff. But what if their staff, seem to think and behave in unexpected ways? This can happen when people from very different cultures work together. Organisations are beginning to realise the importance of training their managers to become inter-culturally competent in order to ensure their staff continue to be motivated and productive.
The main issues to be discussed in this report are: •How culture influences working styles •Different management styles •The importance of training managers to become inter-culturally competent
Now you have to complete the following based on this introduction.FindingsThe Reading – in Reading and Resources on this BREO site: Vecchi, A. and Brennan, L. (2009) Quality management: a cross-cultural perspective. Cross Cultural Management: An International Journal, 16 (2), pp. 149-164. http://www.emeraldinsight.com/Insight/viewContentItem.do;jsessionid=4E6779B84E7B9FB1689E81123174751F?contentType=Article&contentId=1786448 You need to provide a discussion of the issues as given in the Introduction and use the reading as evidence to support your discussion ConclusionConclude on each issue and a final conclusion. The assignment focuses on key transferable and academic skills (namely paraphrasing and referencing) as well as cultural dimensions and their impacts on behaviour discussed in the scheduled sessions.
|
How will my assignment be marked? |
Your assignment will be marked according to the threshold expectations and the criteria on the following page.
You can use them to evaluate your own work and consider your grade before you submit.
As this unit is zero-credit-bearing with possible “pass” or “fail” outcome, markers will not use a typical grading grid. Instead to pass students will have to: submit a paper that should be well structured with each theme developed carefully, drawing on theory and applied convincingly to the realities of working across cultures. Students should prepare a report using the report format as suggested in the assessment guidelines. Present a well-balanced argument by discussing key aspects of the literature in question and have fully addressed the set areas: • How culture influences working styles • Different management styles • The importance of training managers to become inter-culturally competent
It will provide broad and critically evaluative knowledge of relevant theories and concepts showing in-depth and accurate understanding. The analysis is thorough and well explained. Well structured; the style is concise and flowing and referencing is accurate throughout.
