Identify three actions that the ExxonMobil can take to implement a more sustainable business strategy. Explain the potential systemic benefits of each action included in the sustainability strategy. Explain the benefits of ExxonMobil exploiting those relationships. Explain the ethical implications of implementing a strategy for improving sustainability for ExxonMobil.

1. What is the market’s role in driving sustainability in oil and gas industry? How is that different from the role of market forces in driving sustainability in oil and gas industry? Read this question carefully – the market and market forces
are two different factors.
2. The discussion of Ecological Footprints (page 109 of Beyond Greening by Hart) makes an interesting point that it is not only firms that are responsible, but also consumers. What thoughts come to you on reading this small but crucial piece of
information? For example, consider the question of over-consumption and regional disparities. We tend to believe that both over-consumption and over-population are a problem in Asia – indeed, this was a talking point at the
Paris Climate Talks. Certainly, overpopulation is an issue there, but in reality, over-consumption is far more of a problem in the western world. That is what the Footprint concept points to (also see page 38 of the Green Economy).
 
My own footprint calculation is attached in the screenshot. I figured since I drive a Prius, have energy-efficient stuff in our home, burn wood for heat and grow about 10% of our food I’d be a footprint superstar.  But as you can see I have a long way to go before I get down to the 1:1 ratio…this is a humbling exercise.
