Research Paper Assignment
Write a research paper that explores a culture that you are not familiar with. Follow the requirements below, and use them as an outline to set up your paper. Each requirement should be its own section in the paper. –
Do not choose a culture with which you have had personal experience beyond a brief (2 weeks) visit to that country. Please contact the instructor if you have any questions concerning this requirement. The point is to learn about a culture that is new to you, so be curious!
Paper Structure:
— 3-5 pages (not including title and works cited pages)
– Late and short/long papers will be penalized.
– MLA Format
– Students will use one of the following fonts in 12 point size:
– Times New Roman or Arial
– Margins must be either: 1” all around or 1” top and bottom & 1.25” left and right side
– Papers must be double-spaced.
– 2 or more magazines, newspapers, or journal articles from the UNOH library online databases (i.e. Proquest) should be used
– 2 or more books (No textbooks, encyclopedias, or children’s books.)
** Plagiarism (the use of someone else’s written work without providing proper citations or representing it as one’s own) is strictly forbidden and will result in an automatic “F”on the project. Cite any idea, fact, or information obtained from any source other than one’s own mind and experience (i.e. anything learned about the subject after beginning one’s research), even if not a direct quote, to avoid plagiarism.
When writing an academic research paper:
– Avoid…
– …the passive voice (such as: will, should, would, is, are, be). Use active verbs whenever possible (such as: argues, states, believes, feels).
– …switching verb tense whenever possible (past, present, future, conditional).
– …slang phrases.

— …end a sentence with a preposition (such as: be, on, to, upon, with, for, until, after, before).
— …use contractions.
— …overuse words such as: that, just, really, a lot, very.
— Use proper paragraph and sentence structure and include transitions. Use sub head titles to help organize your paper.
