The Unit 5 will explore the two broad categories of behavior function, i.e., attainment and avoidance/escape of an aversive stimulus (situation). This will focus on how you hypothesize the functions of behavior based upon your analyses of the antecedents and consequences of specific behaviors. You will become familiar with cultural and societal influences on behavior and how those influences impact your behavior intervention designs. Finally, you will learn some of the function-based approaches to modifying behavior. Make every effort to complete the reading beforehand so you are able to discuss the following:

  1. Describe the purposes for conducting a Functional Behavior Analysis and discuss when such an analysis is indicated.
  2. Explain how culture and societal norms influence behavior.
  3. Discuss the two broad categories of behavior function.
  4. Describe several function-based behavior intervention approaches.

2. An application (applied research)

•Apply our basic knowledge to a social problem

•Use what we know (from literature) to address issues in the real world

  • Introduction

There are many commonalities among these First Civilizations even though each developed unique cultural, economic, and political characteristics. Use the primary sources to compare and contrast the first civilizations in Egypt and Mesopotamia. Describe two similarities that you notice among both civilizations. Then, describe two important differences.
