Students usually succeed in high school with little leniency through the four years they are in school. The transition from high school to college becomes too overwhelming and a struggle to a large number of students. A student has to be physically, emotionally and psychologically mature to pursue their college education successfully. One way to prevent college dropouts is by mentoring the students (Charmaraman & Georgia 12). This gives students exposure to live in college and the benefits of pursuing a career. This also allows students to learn about the best career choice. The other way is through counseling. There are students who are scared to leave the comforts of their homes to pursue their education. Counseling would be beneficial in making sure that the children have the emotional and psychological stability to leave home to attend college. There are also those students that do not believe college is the best option for them. Counseling would help such students discover their passions and work towards them instead of pursuing a career and dropping out halfway through the journey.
Different countries have come up with a way to prevent college dropout in their country. The most common way is through vocational training for students who do not want to pursue a college education. A college education is not for everyone and having an alternative goes a long way in preventing college dropout. There are those students who are not good in formal education but possess other talents. Giving them an option works as a motivator since they know society accepts and appreciates their need to contribute to the economy in a different way. For a long time, formal education was the only way a person could be seen as successful, but the emergence of other forms of training has opened doors for many students.
