CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN ACCOUNTING THOUGHT
ASSESSMENT 2015-16
The overall assessment mark will be made up of three elements:
A research paper in which must investigate a topic in current interest. You will be given a short list of questions later
in the module from which you must choose one title from a single topic. In all cases you will be asked to evaluate
contrasting views in the topic area. This should be 4,000 words and will contribute 85% of the overall mark.

National Culture and Management Control
Critically evaluate, with reference to at least three relevant papers, the use made of Hofstede’s analysis in examining
management control systems in different national areas.

Marking
Marks will be awarded for:
Presentation Is the presentation at the appropriate standard and is the contribution relevant?
Topic background Is the topic linked clearly to the question and the broader programme?
Investigation Has relevant academic and professional material been consulted (within the limits of the time
available)?
Assimilation Has the material been appropriately summarised and synthesised?
Analysis Is the topic analysed critically in accordance with marking guidelines?
Conclusions Are conclusions appropriate?
