INTRODUCTION 1.1 IMAGE PROCESSING Image processing is defined as the process of converting an image into digital form and performing certain operations on it. These operations are performed so that enhanced image can be obtained from the original image or we can extract some useful information from the original image. These systems ranges from certain digital circuits to parallel computers. The manipulation of the images can be divided into three major categories: 1. Image processing. 2. Image analysis. 3. Image understanding. The image processing includes systems where the input is in the form of image where processing methods have been applied that produces output in the form of images.
