Like other religions we have studied, there are divisions or different forms within the Islamic

tradition. Usually there are a variety of historical and religious reasons for the existence of such divisions. Specifically, within Islam the two main divisions that the lesson covered were Sunni Islam and Shi’a Islam. 

1) Should the religious practices or beliefs of a religion be maintained as they have been in the past, even during periods of social and cultural change? (Why or why not?)
