Essay on Terrorism in Pakistan

Pakistan for many years has been victimized and recognized as a terrorist country. However, people being unable to justify that any country which itself facing bombing, killing and other attacks how can be responsible for terrorism in the world. There is a lot of peace than the last decade and Pakistanis has seen the worst in the last 2 decades. There have been many counterterrorism acts taken by the democratic government.

There were severe attacks faced by Pakistan especially in the years 2007 to 2009. After these years the rate of terrorism is declining because of military operations. The condition today is much better than it was before.  As per the report by Brown University’s Watson Institute for public and international affairs, 8,832 Pakistani security personnel and 23,372 civilians were killed in the name of the war on terrorism.

Pakistan claimed that its neighboring countries are responsible for terrorist attacks. India and Afghanistan, but India denied taking responsibility. However, Afghanistan took the responsibility as they confirmed the support of terrorist groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban. There were many operations that took place against the terrors and such groups. Pakistan army in 2004 chased the group of Al-Qaeda members in Waziristan’s mountain area at the Afghan border.  In between, there was truce broken by the Taliban. They take benefit of it by misinterpreting the state of the truce and annoyed the Pakistani armed forces and government. In the result of which “Raha-e-Rast” operation took place. This operation was helpful in clearing the ways of the Taliban.

One of the major operations that called “Zarb-e-Azb” took place to fight against terrorist groups and save Pakistan. This happened after the serious attack of 8th June at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Tehrik-i-Taliban and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan accepted that they were responsible for this act.  Soon after this, “Zarb-e-Azb” launched on the 15th of June 2014. There were 929,859 people who belonged to 80,302 families from North Waziristan who were relocated.

People of Pakistan today are happy with the current peaceful situation. Pakistanis have understood the value of peace in these years of troubles. People of Pakistan wish to see Pakistan as a successful and developed state but this may take several years. But still, Pakistan is still afraid of the association of India with the Afghan government. The U.S. President Trump in his speech of August 2017 calls upon India to pressure Pakistan, asking for more engagement in Afghanistan. This all disturbing Pakistan to cause fear and association between India and Pakistan is quite disturbing. However, U.S. President controlled the situation and mentioned that they want to stable the relationship between these two countries.

Making possibilities to fight against terrorism was not that easy. It has impacted Pakistan’s economy and overall condition. Still, the relationships with the neighboring countries are critical. Moreover, according to the global terrorism index report of 2017 from one of the Sydney based institute, it is stated that Pakistan has shown quick improvement in stabilizing its condition against terrorism. Pakistan is ranked 5th among 163 countries scoring 8.4 from 10 on the index.
