GNED 1411 Social Media and Society – Online Identity – Management
Online Identity Management Assessment Answer
Introduction:
I am Pardeep and take keen interest in posting and trending over the various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Google+ amongst others. My current online identity emulates a positive persona of myself filled with full of life. Alike my millennial counterparts, I share pictures of myself enjoying with friends, family and accomplishes. Basically I am quite conscious of my posts, pictures, shares and comments so that it does not tarnish my image to my friends. I generally go by the trends that are being followed currently to participate in the discussions and turn the attention towards me(Gibbs & Haynes, 2013). For instance, I have been tweeting and re-tweeting a lot recently over the Oscars that was held last week.
Current Online Identity Analysis:
I have several social accounts each with Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+ and Instagram. It is noted that the approach with each of the social accountsare distinct to one another. This is because I retain different social accounts for specific purposes like LinkedIn to create professional contact and create a suitable job profile for myself to get due attention of the companies. Again I use Facebook strictly for making friends and keeping in touch with them across the world. I use Twitter purely for blogging purpose inciting my social perception and thoughts and sharing the same with the world. So it is true that different social accounts are used for different purpose and it is quite astonishing to see that such elements rekindle different sides of the human’s personality(Bloor, et al., 2002). Social media has become a favourite zone for fake identities but I prefer to showcase to the world my real self. I have my accurate photo, information and my credentials on the various social sites and does not accept friend request from unknown or suspicious accounts.
Desired Online Identity Analysis:
I want to stay true to myself and to my friends and family as wellso I strive to post, comment and share things on the social media what I believe in. I am not superficial in life so I posts and shares pictures of myself enjoying every bit of myself and my experiences and journey in life to relate with my friends and accomplishes on the social platform. So my posts are quite believable to my friends and this genuine approach are very much appreciated by them.
Online Identity Strategies:
My strategy is to keep the matter simple and accurate rather than posting pictures having myself Photoshop in it. I posts pictures of my own or those taken by me or even shared by my friends and family members. I post comments and tweet on trending issues that could range on different social aspects like refugee issues or putting up border walls which appeals me.I will continue to blog on Twitter as it appeals to me the most and has illuminated in me the passion for jotting down my thoughts. So I wish to continue blogging in future as well and sometime I does give it a thought to take it as my profession as well.
Online Identity Reflection:
Online identity has become a way of life in its own for the millennial. So it is advisable to post and share pictures and videos which are not liable to fan any sort of instigation and unrest within the communities(Gibbs & Haynes, 2013). There are many fake posts, suggestions and images on social media and it would be better to adjudge those with an open mind and logic before falling for it. In this way I would be able to establish myself as a genuine person in physical and virtual life as well.
