Here in the Midwest of the good ol’ U.S.A. we are accustomed to drastic shifts in temperature within 24 hours. A 40 degree swing in temperature from one day to the next is not uncommon, for example. Sometimes, I can wake up to frost on the ground, and then during the day, the frost layer disappears despite its temperature remaining below freezing. How can this be explained?
