Lemons water and sugar those are the ingredients for lemonade but for children around the world those ingredients were key to medicine provided a legacy which known Alex’s lemonade stand foundation.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by Alexandra Scott who was diagnosed neuroblastoma just before she turned one years old. Alex’s cancer was very aggressive to the point where the doctors told her parents that chances of her walking were very little, regardless if she beat cancer, but Alex wasn’t having any of it and by her 2nd birthday she was crawling and standing up with braces.
The day after her 4th birthday Alex received a stem cell transplant which changed her and her family forever, when the surgery was done she told her mom that she wanted to help others, kids, the way the doctors had helped her. She made a plan to sell lemonade to collect money to help doctors with their research against cancer, she also wanted to help kids that were going through the same thing by making treatment more affordable and reachable. With the help of her brother and mom she kept true to her word, Alex did her childhood cancer fundraiser at the age of 4 right in front of their yard. The fundraiser turned out to be extremely successful by raising over 2000 dollars in the first year, all of which were given to the pediatric cancer research of where she had her stem cell transplant. Having felt gratification for helping others in need, Alex knew she found something she loved doing. Tragically at the age of 8, Alex Scott passed away, but not before reaching her goal of raising 1 million dollars to help others in need. On what would’ve been her 9th birthday hr legacy of helping others fight cancer was then picked up by her family by creating Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The foundation has lived up to Alex dreams by fighting cancer with the same courageous and selflessness will. According to their online website, the foundation has raised over 150 million dollars for research to help find a cure since Alex death, as well as having funded more than 800 research projects at 135 institutions. The organization help families with travel to a location to get treatment as well as help them with the immense cost of the medicine. Along with many lemonades stands across the country the organization hold event to help promote cancer.
