I think we have discovered that the War of Mexico

I think we have discovered that the War of Mexico has far more significance than we might have previously

realized. Building off of this realization, America gained significant amounts of land after the war outlined in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which is to become the new American frontier. Many questions surround these new lands,

but none more important than if they were to become free or slave. It was not an easy decision as we can catalog the legislation that was a result of this debate: the Compromise of 1850 and the Kansas-Nebraska Act more specifically.

Both of these acts were significant in that they were part of the larger pattern of “sectionalism” that was beginning to crack the foundation of American society. Thus, which of these two acts do you think were more influential in pushing sectionalism and why? What role do they play in determining if the new lands become free or slave? Is there any chance of turning back after these two acts have been passed?

I look forward to your responses.
